Text messages from deadyet?
deadyet? sends safety alerts to people who have agreed to be someone's emergency contact. We never text anyone who hasn't opted in themselves.

How someone becomes a contact
Adding a phone number in the app does not send anything to that number. A contact has to opt in themselves:
- The deadyet? user shares a personal invitation link. They send it to the contact however they like, for example in a text or email of their own.
- The contact opens the link and reads what they're agreeing to. The page names the person who invited them, explains the alerts, and shows the message frequency, rates, STOP and HELP terms. They tick "I agree to receive these alerts" and tap Accept.
- The contact confirms by texting us from their own phone. Their Messages app opens with a confirmation text already filled in. It only counts if they send it from the invited phone number within 15 minutes.
Invitation links expire after 7 days, can be cancelled by the user at any time, and only work for the phone number they were created for. See the step-by-step walkthrough.

Stopping messages
Reply STOP to any deadyet? message and we'll stop texting and calling that number right away. You don't need to tell the person who invited you. If you change your mind later, reply START, then ask them for a new invitation.
