deadyet?

Privacy policy

Last updated September 29, 2026

deadyet? is an iPhone app made by The Flying Chicken LLC ("we", "us"). It notices when your phone stops seeing activity and alerts the contacts you choose. This policy explains what we collect to do that, and what we don't.

The short version

What we collect from you

Activity data from Apple Health

With your permission, the app reads your step count, active energy, and sleep analysis from Apple Health. We don't read heart rate or any other health data, and we never write to Apple Health.

Your raw Health data stays on your phone. Throughout the day, the app sends our server a small summary, which we call a heartbeat:

We use heartbeats only to tell whether you've been inactive for longer than the limit you set. Data obtained from Apple Health is never used for advertising or shared with third parties for marketing.

Account and settings

Your first name or nickname (shown to your contacts), your time zone, your inactivity and response settings, and a device token so we can send notifications to your phone. We don't ask for your email address, phone number, or location.

Your contacts

The name and phone number of each contact you add, how they prefer to be reached (text, call, or both), and whether they've accepted your invitation. Contact phone numbers are encrypted in our database.

What we collect from contacts

If you're someone's contact, we store the name and number they entered for you, whether you accepted and when, and the text you sent to accept. When we send you an alert, we keep a record of whether the message or call was delivered. If you reply STOP, we keep a scrambled (hashed) copy of your number so we never contact it again, even if someone adds it later.

Who we share data with

Only the services needed to run deadyet?:

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent are excluded from all other categories and will not be shared with any third parties. We may disclose information if required by law.

How long we keep it

Deleting your data

In the app, go to Settings and tap Delete Account. That permanently deletes your account, heartbeats, summaries, contacts, invitations and alert history from our server. The only things we keep are the hashed STOP list and a minimal record that prevents a deleted account from being restored. You can also email us to ask for a copy of your data or to delete it.

Security

All connections to our server are encrypted, contact phone numbers are encrypted at rest, and access to the server is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

Children

deadyet? is not intended for anyone under 18, and we don't knowingly collect data from children.

Changes

If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll update the date above and tell you in the app.
